After the fighting session in the gym, Daniel knew that he needed to talk to the one person who means a lot to him. Once he showered, changed and ate his dinner, Daniel went to Cameron’s room. Daniel didn’t see Cameron at dinner so he hoped that he would be in his bedroom. Daniel knows that Cameron liked to hang out at the local lounge area, playing the video games or watching a movie with the other members of Atlantis.
As he rang the doorbell of Cameron’s room, Daniel’s palm started to sweat a little. He knew that he could do anything he wanted but there was a part of him that has always felt this deeper connection with Cameron. Like he always wanted to be near him and protect him from harm.
When the door opened, Cameron was there with just sweatpants and a towel around his neck. His hair was damp so it looked like Cameron had recently taken a shower.
“What’s up, Daniel?”
“Can I come in?”
“Sure. Let me quickly put a shirt on. Feel free to sit anywhere.” Cameron commented as he went to put a shirt over his bare chest, much to Daniel’s disappointment. Daniel decided to sit on the couch while he waited for Cameron to return.
“So, what can I do for you, Daniel?”
“Recently, Atlantis offered to change me. Apparently, with my half shifter status, she is willing to change my DNA so I would be a full shifter.”
“That’s wonderful, Daniel.”
“Yes, it is. It would also mean that my new home would be Atlantis.”
“But you’ve always wanted to come to Atlantis. SG1 and SGC will miss you and your language skills.”
“I doubt it. Although some of my minions will need to get used to a new boss.”
“You’ll definitely be doing it then?”
“Well, that’s why I’m here. I want to talk things out with you.”
“Why? You are an adult. You can do whatever you want.”
“You can tell me to my face that it won’t affect you in any way?”
“Of course. I’ll miss our pizza and movie nights on Saturday nights, when we were on the planet.”
Daniel looks hard at Cameron but notices that Cameron is looking at anything but Daniel. Daniel thought that Cameron would provide a better sounding board but he was wrong.
“You don’t feel the connection?” Daniel muttered softly.
After a few minutes of silence, Cameron said, “Yes, I do.”
“Do you think that means that we are mates?”
“Honestly, I don’t know.” Cameron wanted to say yes but he couldn’t give any hope to Daniel. Cameron knew how much Daniel would easily calm him down, like on the Daedalus. Cameron has suspected for a long while now that Daniel was his mate but until Daniel was a full shifter, he wouldn’t know.
“If it does turn out that I’m your mate, would you be willing to make me yours?”
Cameron has wanted to utter those words to Daniel for a long while now but in good conscious, he couldn’t.
“I…I would be very tempted.”
“But not completely. Your family?”
“Mostly. I do try to visit them as much as work allows it. My mother likes seeing her favorite son.”
“Wouldn’t she want you to find your mate?”
“Yes, she would. She has told me this very often.” After moving his hand through his hair a few times in show of agitation, Cameron let out his breath. “Look, I’ll support you in whatever you do but you need to make the decision for yourself. Not on what ifs or what will bes. Just you and yourself.”
“I know. I…”
Seeing the conflicting emotions on Daniel, against his better judgment, Cameron came over to the couch and pulled Daniel into a hug.
“I’m going to miss you. I need to know what it feels like to have a full animal presence within me, instead of a shadowy figure that is just at my peripheral vision. When I was younger, I thought I was a defect because my animal wouldn’t properly form or allow me to change. It was until my uncle told me about my parents that I realized that I was a half-breed. A defect. A throw-away. I guess it’s fitting with my childhood.”
“Hey, you are wonderful guy, who has a heart of gold and knows more languages than anyone knows what to do with. Honestly, I couldn’t even begin to imagine what it would feel like if my dog never fully developed.”
“Thank you. Maybe I’ll just kidnap you so you can always be there for me.”
Cameron was about to object but he noticed the mischievous glint in his eyes.
“I will always be there for you, Danny. Just send a message through the wormhole and I’ll be here as fast as I can.”
“Same for me. No matter what it is.”
Cameron went back to giving Daniel a tight hug, knowing that he wouldn’t be able to as easily do it as before.
After a while, Cameron commented, “Have you told Rodney that you’re staying?”
“Not yet. I wanted to talk things over with you.”
“Can I be there for it? I want to see his reaction.”
“I think he would be fine with it. Honestly, I think John and Rodney would welcome the help with the Ancient language.” Daniel almost said that they have an Ancient helping them out but he promised Jarod that he would keep that quiet.
“I could see that. At least now Atlantis is willing to let them use the gate for long distance so it won’t take as long to get here.”
“True. We just need to make sure that the ZPMs are filled but I hear that they already have a small pile of them so we should be good for a while. We just need to see what the test results are from Carson’s experiment to see if the people can go back to Earth to visit their friends and family.”
“It would be extremely useful. How soon will you be returning?”
“Probably within a month. I need to tie up my affairs on Earth and pack. Why?”
“Do you want to come home with me to visit my family?”
“That would be lovely. I would greatly enjoy meeting your family, especially after all of the stories that I’ve heard of them through the years.” Most of the time when Daniel needed to be cheered up, Cameron would tell him a story about one of his family members to break the ice. Afterwards, Daniel would tell Cameron what was wrong.
“I’ll double check with my mother but I think she’ll be fine with it. She keeps bugging me about bringing one of my friends around so she can meet them. She keeps teasing me that I only have imaginary friends.”
“Thank you. You always know what to say or do to help me relax. I’m going to miss this.”
“Maybe I should write out a ‘How-to’ manual for John and send it to him when you finally come back to Atlantis.”
“Ha, ha. I almost forgot to laugh.” Daniel said sarcastically.
“I should probably head to bed, unless there was something else you wanted to discuss?”
“No, I’m good. You running with Ronon and John tomorrow?”
“Yes, they get up really, really early. It should be illegal how early they get up to do this.”
“It’s good for you. Enjoy.”
Before Daniel exited out of the quarters, he waved goodbye to Cameron. Daniel knew that he shouldn’t be so excited about being invited to Cameron’s family home but he was pleased. Daniel knew he couldn’t sleep if he wanted to so he headed to the lounge area to see if he could find Jarod. He figured the two of them could chat some more.
The next day, Ronon stalked through the hallways of Atlantis, trying to find his mate. Ronon knew that there was a good chance that his mate was in his office but he checked the two other possible areas first: cafeteria and John’s office. Ronon needed to stop by John’s office anyway to tell him that he and Rodney will be on the mainland for the afternoon.
When Ronon approached Rodney’s office, Ronon stopped and watched his mate in motion for a few minutes. Ronon was always amazed at how fast Rodney’s mind seemed to keep going and how his hands would move on their own, more times than not, especially when he was trying to work through a hard problem.
Ronon knocked softly on his door.
“You better have a legimi—-Oh, Ronon, what are you doing here?” Rodney said as he looked up from his work. All morning, his minions kept bothering him with stupid questions and he was getting annoyed with them. He was tempted to see if he could perfect his fire breathing in human form.
“I thought we could take the afternoon off and go to the mainland.”
“That sounds lovely but I have so much work to do….”
“That will still be there when you get back. Please?” Ronon displayed his puppy eyes and pouty lips, knowing what it did to his mate.
“Fine. Can you give me twenty minutes to wrap things up and make sure things don’t go completely wacky while I’m away?”
“I’ll meet you on the West Pier in about 30 minutes?”
“I’ll see you there.”
Ronon quickly went over to his mate and briefly kissed him before exiting his office. Ronon went back to the cafeteria to pick-up the basket that he requested the first time he went through there a short time ago. He figured that Rodney skipped lunch so he’ll just need to feed it to his mate. Before going to the West Pier, Ronon stopped by their quarters to pick-up the rest of the supplies. Ronon was looking forward to spending the afternoon away from Atlantis, with Rodney.
Author’s note: Sorry for the delay in the update. I had planned out what I wanted to do for the rest of the story but then my muse abandoned me. I’m thinking instead of doing another story about Cameron and Daniel that I might just keep going with this one. I also just might write their own story in the third story for this verse? Hope you enjoy.
