When General O’Neill and SG-1 came off the Daedalus, Mr. Woolsey and John stepped forward with Rodney close behind.
“General O’Neill, welcome to Atlantis. I hope your journey went well.”
“It was standard intergalaxy travel. Of course, when we arrived, I had quite an interesting view of Atlantis. A beautiful, red dragon was residing on top of her, like he was protecting her.”
“He was.” Rodney muttered.
“Last I heard, there wasn’t a dragon on Atlantis.”
“The dragon is one of the things that we look forward to telling you about, while you are here.”
“One of the things?”
“Some things have developed since we last sent our communication to you.”
“I look forward to the update. I assume you want to get everyone settled before we have the meetings?”
“Yes, that would be good. Let’s say we start after breakfast tomorrow morning?”
“Sounds good. If you could please lead the way?”
Mr. Woolsey turned and led General O’Neill and SG-1 into Atlantis. He gave a short tour of Atlantis, showing them the highlights before showing them to their rooms for their stay. Due to how much scouting John and his teams did before Daedalus arrived, everyone was able to have their own quarters.
Once Daniel knew where he would reside, he decided to explore Atlantis, especially since he’s been looking forward to this for many years. Upon hearing Daniel’s plans, Cameron decides to join him.
They go through the halls but try to keep out of the way as the new military and scientist personnel were trying to get acquainted with Atlantis and their new bosses.
Cameron and Daniel arrived in the gateroom as John and Rodney were about to talk to a group of new recruits.
“Welcome to Atlantis. For those that don’t know, my name is Colonel John Sheppard. I’m in charge of the military. I’m also the alpha of the shifter group, which I call “pride”. My mate and second in command is Major Evan Lorne.” John points to Evan so everyone knows who he is. “For the newly arrived shifters, please come to an informal meeting that I’ll hold tonight in the shifter lounge located in the west tower. Also, everyone is required to report to the infirmary right after this so that Dr. Beckett and his staff can give you a physical as a base line. To my right, this is Dr. Rodney McKay. He’s the head of the science department. Yes, the rumor about him being a dragon is true so I would be careful on how you interact with him. His second in command is Dr. Radek Zelenka. Any questions?”
Upon seeing no raised hands, John said, “If you have any questions, please approach one of us and we’ll do our best to address the issue. Dismissed”
After the recruits left, Daniel and Cameron approached John and Rodney, who were standing near Ronon and Teyla.
“That went pretty well.”
“We’ll know if we have any weaklings soon enough. I just hope Atlantis won’t go changing these people but she’ll probably will.”
At Daniel’s questioning look, John commented, “It’ll be explained tomorrow.”
“I see. It sounds like it will be a very informative meeting and probably won’t put anyone to sleep. No promises when it comes to Jack.”
“No, most likely not.”
Seeing Dr. Miller enter with Arianya strapped his chest in a baby carrier, John waved him over.
“Daniel and Cameron, I would like you to meet my daughter, Arianya, and her temporary babysitter, Dr. Jarod Miller. Dr. Miller, this is Dr. Daniel Jackson and Colonel Cameron Mitchell. They just arrived on the Daedalus and will be visiting us for a short while.”
After the greetings, Dr. Mitchell turned to Daniel and said, “It’s been a while. I hope things have been going well with you.”
“Yes. This city is amazing and I know I’ve barely seen what she can do and what can be explored.”
“You two know each other?” Rodney asked.
“Yes. Dr. Miller helped with a translation project before he rotated out here. I know he was excited that he was being shipped here.”
“If you don’t mind, I could show you some of the really cool areas of Atlantis, unless you have some plans.” Dr. Miller asked.
“I don’t think so.” Daniel slowly turned to everyone and people shook their heads no. “Excellent. Why don’t we spend some time to catch up?”
As Dr. Miller and Daniel were turning to leave, John commented, “Dr. Miller, please keep to the safe areas of Atlantis. I do not want any of you harmed, especially Arianya.”
“I was going to keep the main tower and the west tower and stick to the areas that we’ve already searched and cleared.”
“Sounds good. We’ll meet you in the mess hall for dinner at 1800 hours.”
“See you then.”
Dr. Miller and Daniel exited the room and headed for the nearest elevator. Jarod hit the section for the west tower, figuring that they would get the most privacy there.
Once they are settled in the shifter lounge and temporary locked the doors, they decided to really talk with each other. Up to this point, they kept to light topics as they walked to this current location.
“Jarod, what are you doing here?”
“I was asked to help.”
“With what? Last time I checked, Ancients do not interfere.”
“They occasionally do when asked nicely.”
“By who? I didn’t think Atlantis had that type of connection, even though she was built by you. Well, your race.”
Staring at the infant, Daniel couldn’t figure out how she could ask an Ancient for a favor and receive it.
“She’s an Ancient.” Still looking at him funny, Jarod further explained. “Her shifter animal is the Phoenix. So she’s been reborn many times over the past million years or so. At the moment, she only remember bits and pieces of her previous life as an Ancient. She’s remembering more due to being on Atlantis and it’s been making her clingy. Normally, she wouldn’t have remembered anything until at least puberty. As a result, Atlantis helped her to get in contact with me.”
“I take it that Atlantis is protective of her.”
“Yes. I am. She helped build me.”
Daniel turned his head to see a hologram female with long brown hair wearing a choir robe.
“Dr. Daniel Jackson. It is an honor to finally meet you.”
“You too, Atlantis. I take it that you’ve been busy with turning people into shifter animals and into mythological creatures.”
“I want Atlantis fortified again. I want her to be filled with people for a long time to come and the Phoenix to be protected to the best of everyone’s abilities.”
“All understandable.” Thinking about it for a few minutes, he decided that he wouldn’t know the answer until he asked. “Would you be willing to change me?”
“Yes but I promised the Keeper of Atlantis that I wouldn’t turn anyone.”
“Keeper of Atlantis?”
“You would know him as Dr. Rodney McKay.”
“Interesting and somehow fitting. What would my shifter animal be if I let you turn me?”
“It would be Jambavan.”
“You would see me as a bear shifter who also is known for being an advisor of sorts in Indian legends?”
“Yes. You already do it with your current role and your family’s shifter animal is the red panda. How many times have you saved General O’Neill from killing a race due to a possible misunderstanding? You helped him navigate the intricacies of first contact by advising him. I must warn you. If you do go through with the transformation, you’ll never be able to go back to Earth.”
“I’m aware. It’s something to think about. Do you know if I have a mate?”
“Is my mate alive and on Earth?”
“Yes and not at the moment.”
“Thank you for the information, Atlantis. Is there anything else?”
“Not at the moment. I will leave you. If you do need to talk to me, just say my name and I’ll be there.”
The holographic image fades into the background.
Daniel turns his attention back to Jarod, he asked. “That was interesting. In regards to our previous discussion, why did Arianya ask for your help?”
“She wanted her two uncles to be happy by mating.”
“I assume it would be Rodney and whoever his mate is.”
“Ronon. The guy with the big muscles and dreadlocks. He’s extremely possessive of Rodney, especially since they’ve only mated about a week ago.”
“I see. Why didn’t she wait for them to do it on their own?”
“She was afraid that it would either never happen or she would have to wait at least 3 years, if she was lucky.”
“Sounds about right for Rodney. I don’t know Ronon very well so I can’t comment. So you help them get comfortable with each other?”
“And provided some matchmaking advice.” Jarod said with a smile on his face.
“Wow. Advice on dating from an Ancient. I don’t know whether to be impressed or saddened. I assumed it worked?”
“Eventually. Rodney had to jump over a hurtle or two, emotionally and mentally.”
“If it’s all set, why haven’t you left?”
“Don’t you think it would’ve been very suspicious if I just randomly left?”
“Well, you could’ve played with their memories.”
“I would rather not. I like being around Arianya and Atlantis. It’s fun interacting with the people from Earth to see what other things I can help with.” There was a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Daniel softly chuckles. “So no one besides Arianya and Atlantis know that you are an Ancient?”
“Correct. We would like to keep it that way about both myself and Arianya.”
“I won’t say a word but it was a shock to see you. I do hope that Arianya will tell John and Evan about who she is.”
“She will. She wants to get a handle on her past life a bit more before approaching them about it. So how have you really been doing?”
Daniel and Jarod spend the next couple of hours talking. While Daniel doesn’t remember all of his time when he was ascended, he does remember spending a fair bit of time with Jarod. Since his trip back to the living on Earth, Jarod had visited him a few times, which turned out to be quite useful a few times
