“And Sniper Makes Three” – Chapter 1

Author’s Note: Due to a certain friend, a plot bunny was thrown at me and it refuses to leave me until I at least start this story. I’m hoping once I start this story (and maybe finish it because it’s not nearly as long as my Naked Nano one) then I can get back to “Yes, Mulder, Aliens Really Do Exist”. This plot bunny is a Numb3rs one and it will ship Charlie/Ian (If you do not like them, then please feel free to only come back read my other story, which I’m hoping to update this weekend but we shall see). Also, this story will be written in the same manner as the Naked Nano, which means that it will be “Raw” and staright writing. I will have it betaed, etc. before I post it to my A03 account but it will be posted there…eventually….Without further ado….THANK YOU TO ELF for your help!

Warning: hurt/comfort, language, mpreg (eventually)

Rating: PG-13/R

Ian was pissed as he stalked into the FBI. When he left his lover two months ago, he was where he was supposed to be. When he talked to him a two weeks ago, all was well. Ian comes back after finishing his assignment and he can’t find Charlie. He won’t answer his phone. He is not at the college or the house. In fact noone has seen him. Not even Larry or Alan. He hopes that Don will be able to help him since he knows that Don likes to keep tabs on Charlie.

When Ian reached Don’s floor, Ian went immediately to Don’s office and knocked on his door.

Not looking up from his files, Don said absently: “Come in. What can I do for you?”

“Where is Charlie?” Ian said in a gruff tone.

“Ian. What are you doing here?” Don looked up abruptly when Ian started talking. When Charlie told him that he was going away for a little while so he could think, Don knew that Ian would show up on his door-step sooner or later. Don just wished it was much, much later.

“Do you know where your brother is? I have been trying to get ahold of him by phone and e-mail for about two weeks now and he hasn’t responded.” Ian was trying to project a semi-calm persona because he knew that he would be further up a creek without a paddle if he pissed off Don.

“Charlie decided to get away for a little while to think. Knowing him, it would mean that he would leave his cell phone and internet at home and just bring some clothes and live off the land.”

“Do you know where he likes going when he is like this?”

“He has a few places that he likes to visit but I never know where for sure. Besides, haven’t you caused him enough pain?”

Ian’s eyes narrows. “What do you mean?”

“Charlie told me that the reason he was going into hiding was so he could think about his relationship with you.” Don says sternly. “He didn’t give me any specifics and he did make sure that I knew that you had not abused him but obviously something set him off. He left about a week ago.”

“As far as I know, everything was going well between us. Crap. Can you at least tell me the most likely locations he might go?” Ian was trying to keep his calm personna but he was finding it hard to keep under wraps. There was a big part of him that wanted to go down to the riffle range and pretend that Don’s face was the target and empty a few clips into it.

“What will you do when you find him?”

“Try to talk to him and see where our communication broke down. I promise I won’t pressure your brother into anything. I just need to make sure he is alive and safe.”

“For now, I think Charlie needs his space. Maybe in another two weeks or so, I will change my mind but do NOT keep hounding me or my father. Understand, Agent Edgerton?”

“Yes, sir. If you do change your mind, please call my cell, at any time of the day or night. I just want to make sure he is safe and I need to make sure that I did not destroy the best thing in my life.”

During the entire conversation, Don kept a close eye on Ian. Don could tell that Ian did not like coming to Don for help but it spoke volumes about how worried Ian was for Charlie to come to him. Don knew that Charlie had a good reason for leaving and wants to give him some time alone for now but Don knows that Charlie can not handle too much alone time or else he goes a bit crazy with the numbers.

“I promise. Now, can I get back to work?”

“Yes, it is fine. I will be down on the range and then I will be off on my next assignment tomorrow. Please keep me posted about Charlie. I just want to know he is alive and safe.”

“I will. Hope things go well on your assignment.”

Ian nods to Don and then heads down to the range for some good, old target practice in hopes that it will calm his nerves and not allow his imagination to run wild. ‘Charlie, wherever you are, please be safe and please know that I would never hurt you. Please let me know where you are so I can help you out with the issue that is plaguing your mind and heart.’

Author’s note, part 2: BWAHAHA!!! Please be kind to me. I don’t know if I got the personalities completely right for Don and Ian but I think it will do for now. (Yes, there is a reason why Charlie is hiding. No, you don’t get to know now..unless your name is ElfQueen). I hope you enjoy. As I said above, I hope to write more of my other story this weekend (And if that bunny is being really ambitious, I might even finish it).
